Minimum hours under European rules
Sweden follows the European (EASA) rules, administered by the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen). The PPL(A) needs at least 45 hours of flight instruction, including 25 hours with an instructor and 10 hours of supervised solo flying. The lighter LAPL(A) needs at least 30 hours.
The theory part consists of nine exams of 20 questions each. You also need a Class 2 medical certificate for the PPL.
Planning around the season
Sweden’s flying season is short: the typical airfield has far less flyable weather in winter than in summer. Many students do the theory in winter and the flying between May and August, which also keeps the gaps between lessons, and the extra hours they cause, to a minimum.

How we worked this out
Prices come from the schools’ own websites, checked in September 2026. For each school we take its lowest package price for the PPL course and its lowest trial flight price, leave out figures that look like single lessons or exam fees, and convert the few prices quoted in other currencies. “Typical” is the median: half of schools charge less and half charge more. “Most schools” is the middle half.
